We all need help motivating us to continue our diets, and any one who has been reading my posting know that I’ve written about most of these ideas. I spent like a month reading all the motivational books I could find and boiled it down to the 10 best ideas to help motivate you while you are trying to lose weight. If you would like to learn more please visit my previous positing where I go into greater depth. So enjoy and I hope some of these ideas will give you inspiration to continue you journey
1) Down size your goals. So often we look at the big picture and get overwhelmed by what we need to accomplish, by setting smaller achievable goals we set ourselves up to succeed. And success in the greatest motivator to continue.
2) Planning for Failure. Now this might sound odd after tip number one, but plan for the times that you might cheat on your diet or do not reach your goals, actually building in specific times when you can go off your diet often will give you the motivation to continue, and knowing that you are occasionally going to cheat help you from beating yourself and art tempted to quite all together.
3) Reprogramming Your Mind. There are some excellent resources out there which help reprogram you on how to rethink how you deal with food and eating, from self hypnosis to positive affirmations, to professional counseling. I think I provide a few wonderful ideas in my original posting on this subject and I recommend everyone to read that hub. http://hubpages.com/hub/Weight-Loss-Motivational-tip-3
4) Build a soundtrack for success and listen to it often. Music has always been a great motivator to me and almost everyone has an MP3 player. now a days. Fill it up with your favorite motivational songs hear is a few of my favorites
Everybody Rejoice from the soundtrack of “The Wiz”
Eminem – Till I Collapse
Christina Aguilera – “Fighter”
Queen – “We are the Champions”
Paul Hoffman – Your Unstoppable”
5) Develop a Support System We all need help sometimes and developing a support system of family friends, and professionals can help in difficult times.
6) Accountability. We must be accountable to our own selves, if we say that something else if responsible for our problems we take the power to change out of our own hands and give it away to something or someone else. AND THAT NEVER WORKS! You are responsible for your own destiny. And in that we have the power to learn, to grow, to change, to become better than who we are, or even better than whom we want to be. And the first step is taking responsibility and becoming accountable for your own actions.
7) Faith. I don’t want to get all preachy here, but the aspect that faith can motivate us, strengthen us, and encourage us to regain our health, control our addiction with food, and help us reduce our weight is so important. In every 12 step program, one of the major tenets is recognizing that a higher power gives us strength. It is faith in that higher power which lifts us up so often, when we are beat down, with life, problems, and difficulties. It is my faith in God which encourages me to get up every morning, get out of the house, move my body, exercise, strive harder and harder to lose the mounds of excess weight which I have, and with His strength, I know, I will succeed.
8) Do Something Fun (That does not involve eating) When you’ve been on the diet for awhile, you’ve lived with restrictions and sacrifices and had to weight your food or count your calories so it’s important to go out and do something fun for a change. But do something fun that doesn’t involve eating. This is so important to any weight loss program, you have to learn to enjoy life, and you have to move away from food related activates.
9) Scare Yourself Thin I think everyone who starts a weight loss program has in some way scared themselves into doing it, “I’m going to die if I don’t loose this weight,” “no one will love me if I don’t loose this weight,” “I will never find a job if I don’t loose this weight,” “I won’t see my children grow if I don’t loose this weight.” Everyone’s reason for starting there diet is very, very personal, and one person’s motivation is not, and can not be the same, as another person’s reason. But what ever started you on this path of self improvement our determination can sometimes wan and we need to recharge our batteries and keep ourselves motivated. Sometimes simply reexamining your original motivation will give you that gentle push to keep at it, looking at a picture of your loved ones, or a place you want to go will keep you on track. Some times something more dramatic can assist you. Go out and buy yourself a pound of white lard, put it in plastic wrap or a clear baggie, then smash it up into a formless blob of fat, remind yourself that this is what’s beneath your skin, layers and layers of excess fat in my case hundreds of pounds of fat, just weighing me down, preventing me from moving, and from living my life.
10) Buy some new duds There is nothing better than putting on a brand new pair of clothes to make you feel on top of the world. Especially if that new pair of clothes are a couple of sizes smaller than your older ones. This is both practical and psychological, there is just so far you can tighten the drawstring on a pair of pants, so your going to need something new to wear, don’t go all hog though, these clothes are only transitional clothes, expect to have to do this 2 or 3 times..
Well that’s the ten Ideas that I came up with I hope they help you keep motivated and continuer with your diet. Stay healthy, stay safe, and as always
Peace
