Now I’ve asked for help from the Dr. Phil show on a number of occasions, I even tried to get people to start a write in campaign, but with, what I’m sure is thousands if not millions of individuals asking for assistance, being chosen to appear on the show is like winning the lottery, (it would be great if it happened but chances are your just throwing your dollar away.) But on a rare occasion, when the jackpot is high, I still will buy that one ticket, and dream of possibilities. This proposal is like one of those times, and let’s face it, as they say, if you do not ask, you will never get what you need, and even Jesus talked about persistence paying off (Luke 11:5-13 and Luke 18)
Back Story
I’m a 54 year old, morbidly obese man, who was laid off back in August of ’09 from his job, working with the mentally handicapped for the past 8 years. I weigh close to 500lbs, I have no health insurance, my unemployment is quickly going to run out, and my prospects for a job are slim at best, especially in this depressed job market. OK that’s the bad news, the good new is that I’m working on my problems, I’m exercising, I’m applying for jobs, and I’ve been fasting for the last 65 days in order to lose as much weight as possible, in as quick a time as possible, in order to make myself as marketable as possible. (Imagine the possibilities :)
Now I’m a good guy, I’ve worked hard all my life; I even studied to be a priest at one time. I have a B.A. in Communication Arts, with a Theater concentration, and spent a good 20 years in the business, mostly regional stuff, both as a performer and a technician. I’ve been a writer, a producer, a technical director, an actor, a puppeteer, and I even played Santa Clause in the malls for 2 years. I also dabble as an artist and I write blog about my experiences as an obese man trying to loose the weight and get back into shape.
About 2 years ago, I had developed a proposal which I took to the general manager of the organization I was working for, about the development of a dramatic arts program for the mentally handicapped. Without going into the complete specifics of the program, dramatic arts have been proven to assist the developmentally disabled, with building communication and social skills, raising self esteem, increasing confidence and self awareness, developing cooperation skills and respect for others, as well as learning relaxation and calming techniques and exploring creative ways of self expression. The idea was received quite positively, and I was even asked to present my proposal at the annual staff seminar. Everything was on track, everyone like the idea, and then the global financial meltdown happened, gas prices went through the roof, budgets were slashed, and any new projects were put on permanent hiatus if not scraped all together. A year and a half later not only did my program not developed, but I was laid off.
So my proposal for the Dr. Phil show is to fund my dramatic arts program, either through your foundation or the show proper, not only will you be helping develop a program that will enrich the lives of hundreds of the mentally handicapped, you will also be providing me with a job, access to health insurance, access to a gym and a swimming pool, and pretty much saving my life. (A good sized big bang for your buck, I’d say) And it isn’t like I’m asking, for tons of money, I only made like 8 buck an hour, so at most we are talking about 25 or 30 thousand with taxes, tips and whatever else a company has to pay for an employee. And increased publicity might assist with donations to an organization which does a lot of good with helping the developmentally disabled, But in these difficult financial time struggles with support.
So that’s my proposal I hope you consider helping me, I thank you and your staff (because we all know that it’s the organization behind the man that does most of the work), for all the good that you do. I hope you all have a good and pleasant day, and may God bless you all.
Sincerely
Jerry Bacik
